I think people should be a little more open to experiencing other cultures and respecting them. I grew up surrounded by Hawaiian culture, and in school it was part of my whole day, along with Hawaiian language and culture and history classes. And I'm so grateful I did and that's where I come from because I can't imagine growing up without that. Especially since Hawaiians are such a big community and we are all family and supportive of each other. I really can't imagine growing up without that feeling of like knowing everybody and being somewhere where even if we aren't blood related, everyone is part of my family. That's also a big part of Hawaiian culture, family doesn't have to be blood and blood doesn't have to be family. As a sign of respect to our elders, everyone older than you is either Aunty or Uncle, no matter who they are to you. ReplyDeleteI think it's always a good process to come back to things you enjoy especially after seeing inspiration on what could be done.
ReplyDeleteI designed a t-shirt for my high school junior year -- but only on the computer using software. I didn't get the chance to actually use the shirt press to print the design on a physical shirt, which I think would be fun and it might have led to a more rewarding outcome. Printing a design on jeans sounds cool, too.
