my favorite place ever

Image
I absolutely love taking pictures, and I took this one from the Mauna Loa observatory on Hawaiʻi Island. It just got even more special to me because Mauna Loa is currently erupting and the lava has cut off the access road to this place, so I can never get back here again. I made so many good memories up here though and Iʻm glad I can keep those forever.

the science behind my lunchtime coffee

Image
I have found that if I drink my cup of coffee during lunch, or slightly after, my day will work just perfectly. Here's why; When I wake up at 7:30 for this class, and the first thing I reach for is an energy drink, or coffee, I feel great during the class. But then when I get around to my last class at 2, I am crashing, and I no longer want to go. Which often leads me to skip the class or go to sleep for a nap that ends up being way too long because my 2:00 classes aren't super important lol. But I have found that when I drink caffeine at around 1, it wakes me up for my 2:00 class and then I go and pay attention and after it gets out, I can go sit somewhere and have extra energy to do a bunch of homework for a while. So I have adapted my lunchtime coffee to my schedule most days and it works perfectly. And on days that I don't have caffeine with lunch, and I decide to have it later, I have a really great workout, and feel very energized, but after, I don't go to sleep

Culture

I think people should be a little more open to experiencing other cultures and respecting them. I grew up surrounded by Hawaiian culture, and in school it was part of my whole day, along with Hawaiian language and culture and history classes. And I'm so grateful I did and that's where I come from because I can't imagine growing up without that. Especially since Hawaiians are such a big community and we are all family and supportive of each other. I really can't imagine growing up without that feeling of like knowing everybody and being somewhere where even if we aren't blood related, everyone is part of my family. That's also a big part of Hawaiian culture, family doesn't have to be blood and blood doesn't have to be family. As a sign of respect to our elders, everyone older than you is either Aunty or Uncle, no matter who they are to you. I don't entirely know where I'm going with this, I just think that the whole world should be more educated a

ennie meenie miny mo

To be quite honest, I did barely any preparation for college in high school. I was kind of just surviving. I took all average classes, no APs, no honors. I did some scholarships, and applied for maybe 3 or 4 colleges. I honestly didn't even research them either. I was so completely un-prepared. And then I had to choose a school, so I went to visit CU Denver and a smaller branch of Oregon State. I chose this school because the other one I visited was in a small town and I wanted to be somewhere that had things going on all the time, so the city was for me. I think that's the only thing I knew for sure.  When it came to picking my major, I still go back and forth with if I really really  want it or not. I really like photography, but I feel like that's something not worth paying for, like you can learn it by yourself. I also really like drawing and painting, but I like it too much and I wouldn't want it to be ruined if I turned it into a career. I think that's why I

tattoos

There are so many different perspectives on tattoos. I, personally, love them so much. I think I have around ten now. Most of them are tiny (and shitty) stick n pokes, but I feel like that still counts.  I know a lot of people who hate tattoos, and think if you have tattoos you're a bad person, and they don't want you to "ruin your skin." And they think it's not professional and "tacky." But I also know a lot of people who love tattoos because they're a way to express yourself, and a way to make you feel more like yourself in your body.  I love this perspective because I think tattoos are just a way to put permanent art on your body. I don't regret any of the tattoos I have because of the memories behind them. I do also design all my tattoos though, so it's not like I'm copying something online, because I think I might regret that if I did it. Honestly though, every time I get another tattoo I feel more like myself and I think decorating

these cool stairs i saw + empathetic design!!

Image
The other day I was exploring downtown Denver with a friend, and I came across these stairs. It was after the empathetic design exercise, so I couldn't talk about it there, but I can talk about it on here! I'm gonna start with the fact that I think big huge stairways are cool because we only really have small ones where I'm from. But regardless, I think these ones that I came across are additionally cool because if you look closely, you can see that there is a ramp built into the stairs. So not only is this a very accommodating feature to people who might not be able to get up stairs as well, but an aesthetically pleasing design choice. Usually, when I think about empathetic design, I think of metal ramps next to concrete stairs you can tell they didn't add until very recently. But with this, I absolutely love how it's built in, and was obviously not made with the boundaries of how we think a ramp should look or how people usually build them anyways.

How to make good rice

Ingredients - Rice (the big 5 pound bags that you stand up in your kitchen are ideal) - Water - Rice cooker Steps 1. Get however much rice you like and put it in the rice cooker 2. WASH IT. A lot of people don't wash their rice, please rinse it a few times at least. 3. You dump out the dirty water 4. You put your finger in the bowl touching the top of the rice just barely 5. You fill the water up until it lines up with the first line on your finger 6. Cook the rice
